“YOUR LOVE” BY JAMIE PRINCIPLE
Featuring original interviews with Jamie Principle, Louie Gomez, Lori Branch, Frederick Dunson, and Bill Brewster.
House music emerged out of Chicago’s underground dance clubs in the late seventies and early eighties. DJs like Frankie Knuckles spun a combination of underground disco, new wave, and electronica records for crowds that danced all night at clubs like the Warehouse — hence the term “House” music. As the music evolved, young producers started creating their own original tracks to play at these clubs.
One of those is called “Your Love,” and it’s considered one of the earliest original House tracks. It was first written and performed by Jamie Principle, but the song transformed several times on its way to becoming a House music anthem. The most well-known version was produced and arranged by Frankie Knuckles. Both Principle's 1986 version and Knuckles' 1987 remix are part of this year’s inductees into the National Recording Registry.
In this edition of the Sounds of America, we hear about “Your Love,” by way of someone who was there at its inception.
